Pawel Herczynski, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, on Wednesday said he hoped the decision of European Union member states on Georgia’s membership candidate status would be “positive” and the country would get “closer” to the bloc’s membership.
In his remarks over the matter, Herczynski noted the decision on the status would be made by the 27 member states this December, based on a report currently being prepared by the European Commission.
The European Commission report with recommendations will be published [in October] and you will have a meeting in December with the heads of state of the 27 Member States who will decide on the next steps”, the diplomat said.
He added the overall process would take “some time”, but added “a lot also depends on how quickly and effectively Georgia prepares for the eventual membership”.
