Ekaterine Imedadze, the member of the Communications Commission of Georgia, highlighted the country’s potential as a regional digital service hub in comments at the Four-lateral Summit, a joint event of four networks of electronic communications regulatory authorities in Portugal.

The regulatory body on Thursday said Imedadze stressed the importance of creating an international digital connection corridor between Europe and Asia through the Black Sea region.

Georgia has a significant potential to become a regional hub providing digital services, which, in the short term, will have a positive impact on the local market, and in the long term,  will contribute to the better positioning of the country to take a leading place in the growing global and regional digital economy”, she said.

In parallel with the Summit, the Commission’s representatives held a meeting with the current and future chairs of the Body of European Regulators for Electric Communications to discuss accession of the Georgian agency in the BEREC.

Meetings were also held with representatives of the regulatory bodies of Ireland, Portugal, Malta and Poland.

The Summit brings together leading networks from the telecommunications industry – the BEREC, the European Mediterranean Regulators Group, The Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Networks and the Latin American Forum of Telecommunications Regulators.
